Belle Ruin

About the Author:

Martha Grimes

Martha Grimes is an American author of English mysteries and is best known for the novels featuring Richard Jury, an inspector with Scotland Yard, and his friend Melrose Plant, a British earl who has given up his title. Each of her mysteries is named after an English pub -- The Dirty Duck, The Blue Last, for example. Her novels are most often listed as "cozies" but Grimes claims they are not cozies at all because they are too violent and are not set in small English villages. She received the Nero Wolf Award for the Best Mystery of the Year in 1983 for The Anodyne Necklace.
Martha Grimes was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and now lives in Washington, D.C. where she has a son and two grandsons. She makes as many trips as she can to England.
