His novels are set in southeast London and depict the lives of the punks, toughs, and misfits of society who have no conception of the standards of acceptable behavior set by general society. Rather than being detective stories, his novels are descriptive of crimes as they come about and are resolved and how the perpetrators are involved in them. Russell James presently lives in Cheltenham, England
