The success of that book led him to give up his law practice and become a full-time novelist. Millennium Films has purchased the rights to Bangkok 8. Burdett wrote two other "Bangkok" novels: Bangkok Haunts and Bangkok Tatoo. These novels feature the incorruptible detective Sonchai Jitpleecheep and are set in the red light district of Bangkok. While Jitpleecheep is a denizen of this corrupt district and surrounded by sex and violence, he uses Buddhist arguments to point out the faults of the people of the western world. He is an honest detective in a corrupt world.    John Burdett is a British author who has lived in Spain, France, and Hong Kong.
