Bangkok Haunts
Bangkok's police detective Sonchai Jitpleecheep is haunted by the ghost of a former prostitute-lover in this third book of Burdett's Bangkok series. When he receives a snuff film showing Damron's death, he shows it to his old friend and American FBI agent Kimberley Jones. Their efforts are thwarted by Sonchai's boss, Colonel Vikon, who is more interested in having Sonchai help him start a pornography business. Sonchai Jitpleecheep is an uncorruptible police detective who works in the red-light district of Bangkok. A devout Buddhist, he has a strong sense of justice and sin that is not of the same standard of Western culture. For example, Sonchai's explanation to Jones why he can own a share in a brothel but detest porn is an example of his Occidental logic. Despite the obstacles set up by Colonel Vikon, Sonchai and Jones do find Damron's killer in Burdett's third mystery novel in his "Bangkok Series".
