Double Deuce
About the Author:

Robert B. Parker
Wise-cracking,
poetry-spouting Spenser may be Robert B. Parker’s best-known detective, but where
would Spenser be without Hawk by his side and Susan Silverman in his bed? They
save Spenser from himself – and his shadowy past. His other protagonists, Jesse
Stone, Chief of Police in Paradise, Massachusetts, and Sunny Randall, a female
Boston PI, are equally well-defined fictional characters and have their own
series. The Jesse Stone novels are: Night
Passage, Trouble in Paradise, Death in Paradise, Stone Cold, and Sea Change. The Sunny
Randall novels are: Family Honor, Perish
Twice, Shrink Rap, Melancholy Baby, and Blue
Screen. Parker admired Raymond Chandler and had the
honor of completing Chandler’s unfinished Poodle Springs. Perchance
to Dream, Parker’s sequel to Chandler’s The Big Sleep, was a popular
and critical success. In 2004 Parker branched out into historical
fiction with Double Play, a story about Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson. The
story is told from the perspective of Joseph Burke who is hired to protect
Robinson from threats and keep him out of trouble. Burke is able to thwart an
assassination attempt, but his own troubled past creates other problems for him
and Robinson. In Hundred-Dollar Baby, the latest Spenser,
he addresses the psychological question of whether it is really possible to
save somebody. The most recent Spenser novels are: Small Vices, Sudden Mischief, Hush Money, Hugger Mugger, Potshot, Widow’s
Walk, Back Story, Bad Business, Cold Service, and School Days. Parker and his wife live in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
