The Lighthouse
Once again New Scotland Yard Detective Adam Dalgliesh is called upon to use his tactful and discretionary skills to solve the murder of a famouse novelist, Nathan Oliver, on an inaccessible island off the Cornish coast. His body is found hanging from the lighthouse on the Combe Island. Oliver was born on Combe Island, but he was far from its "favorite son." Many people on the island had good reason to dislike Oliver. As Dalgliesh falls ill with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome contracted from an ill German visiting the island, he discovers another murder. His colleagues Kate Miskin and Francis Benton-Smith must work the case while Dalgliesh recovers. P. D. James' quirky island characters and descriptions of this remote island help set the moody atmosphere of this novel.
