Cruel Sister

About the Author:

Deborah Grabien

Deborah Grabien was involved in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene since the Haight-Ashbury days until the 1970's. She plays the guitar and is married to bassist Nic Grabien. During the late 1970's, she traveled throughout Europe before returning to the San Francisco area where she now lives.
Grabien has used her experiences to write an interesting series of mystery novels that have come to be known as the Haunted Ballads because the titles are part of a line from a ballad and the plots involve ghosts. Sometimes these novels are referred to as the Ringan Laine novels. Ringan Laine being the main protagonist. However, don't overlook Penelope Wintercraft-Hawkes, Ringan's love interest and partner who is every bit as active in putting mysteries of the past -- and troubled ghosts -- to rest.
Ringan is a folk musician and restorer of very old mansions and buildings, which are often former music halls, as in Famous Flower of Serving Men and Matty Groves. Penny is a theatrical director and leader of a troupe known as The Tamburlaine Players.
Grabien has written other stand-alone novels, and these too involve murders and mysteries in various musical venues; for example,Rock and Roll Never Forgets and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. These were earlier novels and no longer in print.
