What's So Funny?

About the Author:

Donald E. Westlake

Donald E. Westlake is one of America's most prolific writers of crime stories. He also writes under the pseudonyms Curt Clark, Timothy J. Culver, Richard Stark and Tucker Coe. He was born in Brooklyn and lives in New York, which is the setting for most of his crime novels. He is a three-time Edgar Award winner for Best Short Story, Best Novel, and Best Motion Picture Screenplay. He is married to writer Abby Adams.
His best-known character, John Archibald Dortmunder, is nearly as well known as his creator, Donald E. Westlake. Dortmunder, a great planner and schemer whose plans invariably take a humorous turn for the worse, is a career criminal. Westlake wrote fourteen Dortmunder books, six of which have been made into movies: The Hot Rock starred Robert Redford; Bank Shot starred George C. Scott as Dortmunder; Jimmy the Kid starred Gary Coleman as Jimmy and Paul Le Mat as Dortmunder; Christopher was named Gus Cardinale instead of Dortmunder for the film Why Me?; Martin Lawrence was the renamed Dortmunder character, Kevin Caffery for the film What's the Worst Thing That Could Happen?
