Martin Cruz Smith
Best known as the author of Gorky Park and creator of the melancholy Russian police detective, Arkady Renko, Martin Cruz Smith was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and is listed as an important Native American writer. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and worked for the Associated Press, newspapers, and local television stations. Before his successful Arkady Renko novels, Smith used various pseudonyms. His first novels, The Inquisitor Series, were written as Simon Quinn. These books are out of print and hard to find. He also used Martin Smith and Nick Carter, but his successful novels featuring Arkady Renko and others that followed were written as Martin Cruz Smith.
Smith lives with his wife and three children in San Rafael, California.
