James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels are set in New Iberia, Louisiana, an area well-known from his youth and college years. He attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute and received his M.A. from the University of Missouri. He named fictional Dave Robicheaux's daughter Alafair after his own daughter. He and his wife of 46 years have three other children. He and his wife live between New Iberia and Missoula, Montana. He is one of only two people to have won two Edgar Awards.
Burke has written another series of books featuring Texan Billy Bob Holland, Dave Robicheaux remains his trademark detective. Robicheaux, and ex-policeman on the New Iberia Police Department, lives on a bayou and spends much of his time fishing and trying to live quietly, but his friends -- and enemies -- won't let him.
