Gone, Baby, Gone
About the Author:

Dennis Lehane
Dennis Lehane was
born (1966) in Dorchester, a rough inner suburb of Boston,
Massachusetts and still lives in the area. Patrick
Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, Boston
private detectives, appear in his first novel, A Drink Before the War. Their investigations lead them to the
grittiest, roughest areas of Dorchester where they meet
up with the lowest element of society in their effort to exact justice for
their clients. Kenzie and Gennaro also appear in Darkness, Take My Hand, Sacred, Gone, Baby, Gone, and Prayers for Rain. Mystic River is Lehane’s most well-known and celebrated mystery novel. He won
the Anthony Award and Barry Award for Best Novel, and the Massachusetts Book
Award for that novel. It was made into a movie starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins,
and Kevin Bacon. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the movie won an Academy Award for
Best Movie. Mystic River is the ultimate new noir detective mystery. The psychological
drama and violence from a childhood crime create strong feelings among the main
characters as they search for the murderer of one’s young daughter. The
characters are well-written and the tension is unnerving. Dennis Lehane is the
leader of the New Noir genre of mystery writers. Mystic River was followed by Shutter Island in 2003.
