The Snake, the Crocodile, and the Dog
About the Author:

Elizabeth Peters
Elizabeth Peters is the pen name under which Barbara Mertz writes the Amelia Peabody series. Peabody, as her hot-headed and hot-blooded Egyptologist husband Radcliffe Emerson calls her, is involved in many adventures and mysteries. The action takes place mostly in Egypt, but occasionally the family goes home to England where they become involved in plots and mysteries that have their roots in Egypt. The whole Emerson household are involved in the series that follows a true historical timeline from the early scientific interest in Egyptian pyramid excavations of the late 1800's to the discovery of King Tut's Tomb to military and political intrigue in Egypt during and after WW I. Readers have enjoyed the growth and changing relationships of this family of eccentric Egyptologists as much as the adventures and mysteries that involve Amelia Peabody. It is no wonder that the Amelia Peabody series is so historically accurate since, Barbara Metz holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago. She makes her home in Illinois. The Amelia Peabody books have been narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, who has become the voice of Amelia Peabody. She won the Audio Award for Best Female Solo Narrator in 2000. The books in the Amelia Peabody Series are: Crocodile on the Sandbank, Curse of the Pharaohs, The Mummy Case, Lion in the Valley, The Deeds of the Disturber, The Last Camel Died at Noon, The Snake, the Crocodile, and the Dog, The Hippopotamus Pool, Seeing a Large Cat, The Ape Who Guards the Balance, The Falcon at the Portal, He Shall Thunder in the Sky, Lord of the Silent, The Golden One, The Children of the Storm, Amelia Peabody's Egypt, Guardian of the Horizon, and Tomb of the Golden Bird. Vicky Bliss, who first appeared in Borrower of the Night, is a professor of art history who becomes the assistant to the head of a Munich museum, Anton Schmidt. In her investigations of art thefts, she becomes involved romantically and dangerously with dashing art thief John Tregarth, aka Sir John Smythe. The other novels in the Vicky Bliss series are: Street of Five Moons, Silhouette in Scarlet, Trojan Gold, and Night Train to Memphis.
