About the Author:

Tony Hillerman

Tony Hillerman's mystery novels, set in the Four Corners area of Arizona and New Mexico, entertain and educate readers about the Navajo culture. The plots often center around the traditional beliefs of the Navajo, as in The Dark Wind, Skinwalkers, and The Ghostway. His protagonists, Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, are introduced in his first book The Blessing Way. As chief and lieutenant of the Navajo tribal police, they often find themselves in conflict with the "white" and Indian cultures in solving crimes. Leaphorn and Chee follow the Navajo customs as well as make use of modern technology to investigate crimes on the Reservation. In Sacred Clowns, Jim Chee falls in love with Janet Pete, an attorney in the prosecutors office, and is tempted to leave the Tribal Police and move to the city with her.
Hillerman has been honored with the Navajo Tribe's Special Friends of the Dine Award. He is a past president of Mystery Writers of America and has received their Grand Masters Award and The Edgar Award.
Other books by Hellerman set on the Navajo Reservation are: Dance Hall of the Dead, Listening Woman, People of Darkness, A Thief of Time, Coyote Waits, The Fallen Man, The First Eagle, and Hunting Badger.
