Archer Mayor
Archer Mayor's detective books are set in Brattleboro, Vermont. His plots are meticulously detailed using actual police methodology which he learned from his stint as a part-time patrol officer for the Bellows Falls, VT Police Dept.
His protagonist, police lieutenant Joe Gunther, first appeared in Open Season. The 15 Joe Gunther detective novels include Borderlines, The Disposable Man, Fruits of the Poisonous Tree, The Dark Root, Occam's Razor, Bellows Falls, Marble Mask, Tucker Peak, Scent of Evil, and Gatekeeper.
Two of Mayor's books, Scent of Evil and The Skeleton's Knee, were given acclaim by the Los Angeles Times two years in a row. The New York Times singled out The Ragman's Memory for one of eleven "Notable" mysteries of the year in 1997 and The Sniper's Wife in 2002.
Mayor's newest book, The Second Mouse, was released in October, 2006.
Mayor is a graduate of Yale University. He lives with his family in Vermont.
