James Patterson has 34 books in print and turns out two detective novels a year. 18 of his books have been #1 on the NY Times best seller list. His novels featuring Alex Cross, a black former Washington, DC police officer turned forensic psychologist, has been the #1 detective series for the past twelve years. Cross, although wealthy, continues to live in his old neighborhood, a Washingtond, D.C. slum, with his grandmother, Nana Cross, and his three children, Damon, Janine, and Alex, Jr. His first two books, Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, were successful movies starring Morgan Freeman as Cross. The other books in this series are: Jack and Jill, Cat & Mouse, Roses are Red, Pop Goes the Weasel, Four Blind Mice, The Big Bad Wolf, London Bridges, and his most recent Mary, Mary. Cross' best friend and co-protagonist in many of the books is John Sampson. Gary Soneji is one of Cross' better know nemeses. Patterson's other popular series is the Women's Murder Club Mysteries - 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd to Die, 4th of July, and The 5th Horsemen. In this series four successful women meet at a bar called Susie's to plot their strategy to right the wrongs committed against themselves and other women. The main characters in these novels are: Lindsay Boxer, a detective; Claire Washburn, a medical examiner; Cindy Thomas, newspaper reporter; Yuki Castellano, an attorney. Patterson, originally from New York, now lives in Palm Springs.
