The Complete Father Brown

About the Author:

G. K. Chesterton

  G. K. (Gilbert Keith) Chesterton wrote books of poetry, fantasy, and Christian apologetics, but his detective novels featuring Father Brown have endured and have become classics. The Father Brown mysteries are short stories that were published as compilations. Father Brown, a non-descript, rather shabby but  wiser to the world than his appearance might appear to readers, is introduced in The Blue Cross in 1911. There have been many radio serials, movies and TV serials based on these stories, the most recent being a series on PBS in 1974. All have begun with The Blue Cross. There are 50 Father Brown stories in five compilations: The Innocense of Father Brown, The Wisdom of Father Brown, The Incredulity of Father Brown, The Secret of Father Brown, and The Scandal of Father Brown.

G. K. Chesterton sought to explain religion and life, good and evil. Flambeau, a former criminal reformed by Father Brown, assists Father Brown, and through these two characters, Chesterton is able to debate issues of good and evil and the actions of people in society.
Chesterton lived from May 29, 1874 until June 14, 1936.
