Jeffrey Deaver's California Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Kathryn Dance is the protagonist in The Sleeping Doll, due to be released in June, 2007. Dance first appeared in a supporting role in The Cold Moon. Deaver plans to write a Dance crime novel every other year rotating it with a book in his successful Lincoln Rhyme series. Lincoln Rhymes, former head of the NYPD forensics department, is a quadriplegic who solves crimes with the help of his partner and lover, Amelia Sachs. They first appeared in The Bone Collector, published in 1997. With Sachs acting as his arms and legs, Rhyme solves the most devious crimes committed by pathological killers in The Coffin Dancer, The Empty Chair, The Stone Monkey, and The Vanished Man. An earlier series, known as The Rune Trilogy, stared a young filmmaker in New York who solved the killing of an old man in Manhattan is My Beat and the bombing of a theater and resulting murder of the star of her documentary in Death of a Blue Movie Star. In Hard News Rune accidentally comes across information that could clear an innocent man falsely imprisoned. Deaver has been nominated for The Edgar Award, has won an Anthony Award and a Gumshoe Award, and is a three-time winner of the Ellery Queen Reader's Award.
