Gertie Johnson

  Gertie Johnson is the amateur sleuth -- never mind that she has an unofficial detective agency named Trouble Busters -- in the Deb Baker Yooper (Upper Peninsula, MI) series. She is 66 and has been widowed for two years. She has three children named for the horses she wanted as a child but never had: Heather, Star, and Blaze. Blaze is the local sheriff of Stonely, MI and Gertie's nemesis in the series. She and her friends, man-hungy Cora Mae and pin-curled Kitty, get themselves into hilarious situations before Gertie finally solves the murders.
