Arkady Renko

  Arkady Renko is Martin Cruz Smith's Russian police detective. He has a son in the Russian miliary and a loving wife in the earlier novels, but he loses his wife in the third novel, Red Square. He is brilliant and analytical and finds the new Russian order as difficult to work with as the old Communist regime. He is melancholy and cynical and finds it difficult to play the politics necessary if he were to get ahead in his profession.
