Earlene Fowler

Benni Harper -- amateur sleuth, former cowgirl, and skillful quilter -- is very much like her creator, Earlene Harper. Harper is a western writer, born in California, and a quilter in her own right as well as writer of cozy mysteries. Harper wrote literary and commercial fiction, but she became successful when she turned to writing mysteries. Her first mystery, Fool's Puzzle, was nominated for and Agatha for Best First Novel, and she won the Agatha for her fifth book Mariner's Compass. All of the novels are named for a quilt pattern and set in fictional San Celina in Central California.
Harper lives in Southern California with her husband Allen.
