Ian Rankin
Ian Rankin is the number one best-selling crime authors in the United Kingdom. His Inspector Rebus novels, set primarily in Edinburgh, Scotland, have been made into movies for TV as well as a major TV series. The novels are police procedural type novels that also fall into the Tartan Noir genre. Rebus is introspective and wonders what makes people do bad things. He has problems with personal relationships and suffers from the trauma of SAS training. He first appears in Knots and Crosses in 1987.He wrote three novels under the name of Jack Harvey: Witch Hunt, Bleeding Hearts, and Blood Hunt. Rankin was born in Fife, Scotland and educated at Edinburgh University. He has held a variety of jobs as well as worked for the civil service and as a researcher and journalist. He has received many awards for his novels, among them the Edgar Award for Best Novel for Resurrection Men in 2004 and the British Book Awards Crime Thriller of the Year for The Naming of the Dead in 2007. He is married with two sons and lives with them and his wife Miranda in Edinburgh, Scotland.
