Sue Grafton

Sue Grafton claims she began writing her murder mysteries during a nasty divorce as a legal way of killing off her husband. A is for Alibi has a more intense feel to it than the later books, and that may be due to her own intense emotions at that time. That book was a best seller, and she went on to write nineteen more "Alphabet Mysteries" starring protagonist Kinsey Milhone, an ex-police officer and now private detective. Grafton allows Kinsey to mature and grow during the series adding a psychological depth to her toughness.
Grafton lives in Santa Barbara, California and Louisville, Kentucky, as her husband Steven F. Humphrey teaches at universities in both cities.
