Linda Greenlaw
Slipknot is not Linda Greenlaw's first book, but it is her first mystery novel. Her other books chronicle life as a commercial fisherman. She is a captain of a lobster boat and was featured in Sebastian Junger's The Perfect Storm which was later made into a movie. Slipknot's protagonist is Jane Bunker, a Florida detective who returns to her home in Maine and becomes a marine insurance investigator. Boats, fisheries, and specially Green Haven, Maine give the book a sense of place as Jane goes about solving the murder of Nick Dow. Greenlaw lives on Isle du Haut, Maine, and still captains a lobster boat.
