Laura Lippman
Laura Lippman's popular character Tess Monaghan, a Baltimore reporter turned detective, has much in common with her creator. Lippman has been a reporter and feature writer for the Baltimore Sun for the past fifteen years and has written a book a year while working full time for that newspaper. She lives in Baltimore, as does Tess Monaghan.
Her first novel, Baltimore Blues, was nominated for a Shamus award for best first novel. She has won awards for many of her books since then as well as many more nominations. She wond the Agatha and Edgar Awards for Butchers Hill in 1998.
